About the Location
Birdsongs Garden is a small, family project started by a local high school art teacher and bird lover. It’s a combination of cultivated gardens set up specifically for hummingbirds with some natural feeders and a trail down into the forests of the foothills of Tenorio Volcano.
Why I Recommend It
If you want to reliably see and photograph two harder-to-spot hummingbirds, the endemic Snowcap and the Black-crested Coquette, this is where I recommend going. Plus, I like supporting this type of off-the-beaten-track small businesses. I was able to capture this photograph of the Coquette that was featured on the homepage of eBird!
Birdwatching & Photography Highlights
While there are other species you can see there, like the Tody Motmot, I recommend going here if you’re focused on the Snowcap and Coquette. Afterwards, combine it with a visit to one of the nearby reserves where there are more extensive forest trails like at Tapir Valley or Heliconias Lodge.
